Q:  What is BUTV?
A:  BUTV is the name for the TV options distributed across Bucknell’s campus. 

Q:  Can I view BUTV in the confines of my room?
A:  No, BUTV is not available in individual student rooms. However, you may have options available from your home cable provider or other streaming services. Click here for more information on various streaming options that may be available.

Q:  Why was BUTV access removed from student rooms and who made that decision?
A:  When our previous contract expired,  and because very few students subscribed to individual room-based BUTV, the University created a committee to look at our options for BUTV moving forward. The BUTV Committee was comprised of campus partners from the Division of Student Affairs, Library & IT, Finance, Events Management, Facilities and students. It conducted research and met with various student organizations and advisory groups, including BSG, SAAC, IRHA and Library & IT. The feedback the committee received from these groups helped inform the University’s decision to no longer offer BUTV access in individual residence halls.

Q: Will I still be able to watch BUTV on campus?
A: Yes, BUTV is available in lounges and other public spaces.

Q:  How was the BUTV channel lineup determined?
A:  As with most cable packages, stations come bundled with limited opportunity to add or edit the packages provided. We selected the package that most closely aligns with the feedback and input we received from students. Among the most significant upgrades from our previous BUTV offerings is the availability of more than 50 HD channels, which was among the top requests we received from students.

Q:  My favorite channel is missing. How can additional stations be added?
A:  As of now, the channel selection is fixed. We will continue to assess both the content provided and the locations throughout campus in which BUTV is available. We welcome your feedback and suggestions. Please email them to BUTV@bucknell.edu.

Q:  I live on campus and am interested in watching live TV in my room. Am I able to contact a local cable provider and have them install a dish or hard-wire my individual room?
A:  No. Bucknell provides free access to cable TV in lounges and other public spaces, and cannot support additional vendors coming to campus.

Q:  The new BUTV system uses Roku boxes. Can I use my own Roku box to get BUTV?
A:   No, only the BUTV Roku boxes will work with BUTV. They are set up specifically for the system and will only work with BUTV.

Q:  The lounge TV is not properly working. What do I do?
A:  Contact your RA and they will document the information and supply it to the BUTV Committee the next business day.

Q:  What is Philo?
A:  Philo is the company that provides the content for our on campus BUTV system.

Q:  What else can I use the Roku box in my Residence Hall lounge to do?
A:  The Roku box will only work on our network in Residence Hall lounges and other public areas to access the Philo system.  They cannot be used to order content or to connect to your personal Netflix or Hulu account.
