How do I choose the best keywords for searching for information on a topic?
  Question

How do I choose the best keywords for searching for information on a topic?

  Answer

  • Try doing some broad subject searches in either a specialized subject database (i.e. PsycInfo) or a database with broader subject coverage (i.e. ArticleFinder).
  • Browse the list of subject headings to determine how much information is available and to get a feel for the different subject headings that are used to describe your topic.
  • Notice the specific subject headings that are being used in your search results. Use these subject headings to either focus or expand your search.
  • Follow the trail of relevant subject headings attached to search results to find more information.
